Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania Joins Forces with the American Red Cross to Prepare and Prevent for Fire Emergencies

Tuesday, December 05, 2017

Our employee volunteers joined the American Red Cross of Western Pennsylvania on Saturday, December 2 in the City of Pittsburgh’s Beltzhoover neighborhood to help save lives in the Red Cross’ Sound the Alarm home fire safety and smoke alarm installation event. During the event, Red Cross joined with fire departments and community groups to install smoke alarms in neighborhoods with the greatest risk for home fires.

“We count on the generosity of corporate partners to help fund our efforts and provide volunteers for our Sound the Alarm event and are grateful to Columbia Gas for their participation,” said Chief Executive Patricia M. Waldinger. “In addition to a $3,000 donation, their employees worked tirelessly to install smoke alarms for those without them, checked and changed batteries in existing devices  and helped to educate homeowners and their families about preparing and preventing fire emergencies.”

“Because safety is the foundation of all that we do at Columbia Gas, we are committed to partnering in events and with organizations that provide the opportunity to support the safety of our customers and communities,” said Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania President Michael Huwar.

During the month of November, the Company encouraged customers and the public to join its #Prepare and #Prevent Campaign on Facebook and Twitter pages. A $2 donation was pledged for each additional ‘like’ on Facebook and each ‘follow’ on Twitter.
