Mark Kempic steps into new role with NiSource
Mike Huwar has been named president of Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania and Columbia Gas of Maryland, effective Feb. 13. The companies serve approximately 456,000 natural gas customers in 29 counties throughout Pennsylvania and Maryland.
Huwar re-joins NiSource Inc. (NYSE: NI) after serving as vice president of marketing for Columbia Midstream, a subsidiary of Columbia Pipeline Group. Huwar’s career at Columbia Gas began in 1986, and prior to joining Columbia Midstream, he served as vice president and general manager at Columbia Gas of Virginia. His experience also includes a variety of leadership positions in sales and customer relations across the NiSource gas distribution companies.
“Mike brings a breadth of industry experience, with a strong focus on customer service and engaging employees and communities,” said Pablo Vegas, NiSource executive vice president and president of the Columbia Gas Group. “He’ll continue our strong tradition of execution across Pennsylvania and Maryland in delivering safe and reliable service for our customers as we modernize our infrastructure for the next generation.”
NiSource also announced today that Mark Kempic, president since 2012, will become the corporation’s Chief Transformation Officer.
A Fayette County native from Perryopolis, Pa., Huwar earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Pittsburgh and completed an executive leadership training program at The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He is a graduate of Leadership Pittsburgh.
He is member of the Marcellus Shale Coalition Executive Board of Directors and previously served on the board of directors for the Virginia Utility Protection Services (VUPS), Virginia’s one-call center. He is also a past board member for the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Architects, Land Surveyors and Geologists.
