On Friday, October 14, the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) approved a joint settlement filed by Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania, Inc., a subsidiary of NiSource Inc. (NYSE: NI). Through the settlement, rate adjustment for Columbia will provide $1 million annually for income eligible customers that may need assistance with their natural gas bills. Additionally, the adjusted rates will provide resources to enable Columbia Gas to continue providing safe and reliable natural gas distribution service to its 414,000 customers and to maintain the type of infrastructure investment that has generated more than 800 jobs.
Columbia is also improving the way customers are billed. Customers will now be billed for the amount of energy used, instead of the volume of natural gas used.
