Cold Weather Minute: Avoid Buried Utility Lines By Calling 811 Before Digging
March 3, 2011
Whether you’re planning an excavation as part of a landscaping project or building an addition onto your home, avoid property damage, personal injury, and possible fines by calling 811 before you dig. The telephone number 811 has been designated as a national hotline to ensure that buried utility lines are marked before digging. Dialing 811 will automatically direct callers to the Pennsylvania One Call System, who will then alert the appropriate underground facility owners – like Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania – of the planned dig. The facility owners will then identify and mark underground lines or facilities at the work site. For more information, visit www.Call811.com.
