Cold Weather Minute: Effective Ways to Reduce Water-Heating Energy Costs

Water heating accounts for approximately 19 percent of your home energy bill. For most tasks, water temperatures above 125 degrees are not necessary. Set your water heater to a temperature around 120 degrees. In addition to lowering your water temperature, insulate hot water pipes and don’t forget to turn the heater to the “warm” or “vacation” setting when you are away from the home for more than a day.
