Columbia Gas Announces Third Quarter Natural Gas Costs

June 30, 2010

Canonsburg, PA – Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania today announced it has filed its quarterly gas cost adjustment with the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC).

Effective July 1, a typical residential customer purchasing 72 Ccf of natural gas monthly from Columbia will have a total monthly bill of $75.86. The same customer had a monthly bill of $75.87 during the same period in 2009.

As a regulated charge, quarterly gas costs paid by customers – which represent a significant portion of a customer’s total bill – are adjusted quarterly and submitted to the PUC.  These costs are passed through directly to the customer with neither profit nor mark-up, and are reviewed annually by the PUC.

Columbia Gas is committed to helping its customers use energy wisely and safely through a number of programs and initiatives.  Customers are encouraged to consider acting on a handful of steps to use energy wisely:

·  Install an electronic programmable thermostat that allows scheduling to reduce energy usage when no one is home.

·  Add weatherstripping to windows and doors to prevent heating and cooling loss from drafts.

·  Regularly replace furnace filters and have furnaces checked annually to ensure they are running at peak performance.

·  Insulate water heaters and piping to prevent heat loss through pipes.

·  Conduct a home energy audit, or have a contractor conduct a comprehensive energy audit, to identify additional energy savings opportunities.
